With over 35 years of experience in the global shipping and logistics industry, Captain Badawy is the driving force behind UME.

He is the Founder and Chairman of the Board at UME, and a seasoned maritime leader with a long-standing legacy in the region. In 1995, he established Gulf Agency Company (Egypt) Ltd, a strategic branch of GAC Group, where he continues to serve as Managing Director and Partner.

A Master Mariner by profession, Captain Badawy graduated from the Merchant Naval Academy of Alexandria and has since led numerous ventures that shaped Egypt’s maritime landscape.

His leadership combines deep technical expertise with strategic vision, anchoring UME’s growth with trust, innovation, and integrity.

Mohamed El Alfy

Director

With over 30 years of experience in the international shipping and logistics industry, Mohamed ElAlfy brings deep operational expertise and global insight to UME Egypt.

Mr. ElAlfy has held senior leadership roles across the shipping sector, overseeing complex logistics operations and building high-performing teams. His global career spans 19 years in major international trade hubs, including Dubai, Hong Kong, the United States, and Europe, giving him a strategic edge in navigating global markets.

Today, as Director of UME in Egypt, he plays a key role in shaping the company’s growth, market positioning, and operational excellence.

Magnus Granander

Director

With over 20 years of experience in commercial shipping, Magnus Granander brings a global perspective and deep market knowledge to UME’s commercial operations. He began his maritime career in 1999, working with leading international shipbroking firms and shipowners, gaining firsthand experience across major shipping hubs including London, Zug, and Monaco.

In 2014, Mr. Granander co-founded UME Shipping AB and assumed the role of Commercial Director. Since then, he has continued to steer the company’s commercial strategy with a focus on market insight, reliability, and operational excellence.

Mr. Granander holds a Bachelor of Science in Nautical Science from Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden and has served as a Reserve Officer in the Royal Swedish Amphibious Corps, a background that reinforces his structured, disciplined approach to leadership and decision-making.
