UME Crew Plays Key Role in Saving 29 Lives in the Mediterranean
Palma de Mallorca, Spain – December 9, 2025
UME is proud to announce that its vessel M/V GUBAL TRADER was instrumental in a successful Search & Rescue operation coordinated by Spain’s Maritime Safety & Rescue Agency.
On the evening of December 9, the crew of M/V GUBAL TRADER spotted a vessel in distress in the Mediterranean Sea. Acting swiftly and following emergency protocols, the crew remained on site, safeguarding the passengers until the arrival of the Spanish rescue unit. Thanks to their decisive actions, 29 lives were saved.
The Spanish Maritime Safety & Rescue Agency formally expressed their gratitude in an official letter to the vessel’s captain, praising the crew’s efficiency, courage, and professionalism. Their intervention prevented what could have become a prolonged and high-risk emergency situation.
“Protecting lives at sea is not simply a duty, it is a principle we uphold with honor” said Captain Mohamed Badawy, CEO and Chairman of UME. “We are incredibly proud of our captain and crew for embodying the values that define UME.”
