Egypt Continues its Global Maritime Leadership: New Victory with Category (C) IMO Council Membership and Expanding International Cooperation During IMO Meetings in London UME Reaffirms Its Full Support for Egypt’s Efforts in the Maritime Sector

United Marine Egypt (UME) extends its warmest congratulations to the Arab Republic of Egypt for its well-deserved election to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council – Category (C) for the sixth consecutive term and the 23rd time since joining the organization. This new achievement reflects Egypt’s leading maritime status and its pivotal role in supporting the global maritime transport system.

UME’s Prominent Participation as Part of the Official Egyptian Delegation at IMO Meetings

During the IMO General Assembly in London, UME recorded a strong presence within Egypt’s maritime transport delegation. The company was represented by Captain Mohamed Badawy, who affirmed the vital role of the private sector in supporting the state’s direction and enhancing Egypt’s international presence.

This year, UME’s participation reflected:

Official Egyptian Delegation Led by the Minister of Industry and Transport

Minister Kamel El-Wazir headed the Egyptian delegation, presenting Egypt’s comprehensive achievements in developing the maritime transport and ports sector, and the factors that supported Egypt’s continued success in winning Category (C) membership. UME’s role complemented the state’s efforts by supporting Egyptian representation and enhancing cooperation during the meetings.

 

Signing of a Recognition Agreement for Egyptian Competency Certificates with Norway

The meetings witnessed the signing of a memorandum recognizing Egyptian maritime competency certificates by the Norwegian Maritime Authority. The agreement was signed by Rear Admiral Dr. Ashraf Nabil Al-Assal, Chairman of the Egyptian Authority for Maritime Safety.

This recognition represents:
• Greater opportunities for Egyptian seafarers to work on Norwegian-flagged vessels
• Expansion of international confidence in Egypt’s maritime training and qualification system
• Opening a new maritime market for Egyptian seafarers
• Strengthening the role of Egyptian companies, including UME, in international forums
