UME Shipping unveils Seaglider: fossil-free coastal transport for Sweden and the Baltic Sea
UME Shipping is proud to announce its first-ever participation at Donsö Shipping Meet 2025, one of Northern Europe’s premier maritime industry gatherings. At the event, the shipping company will showcase Seaglider, a groundbreaking innovation in sustainable maritime mobility, set to make its debut on the Swedish market in 2027.
Seaglider: A leap forward in green maritime
Developed by US-based REGENT and introduced to the Nordic region by UME Shipping, the Seaglider is designed for ultra-efficient, zero-emission travel over water. Combining the speed of an aircraft with the energy efficiency of a boat, the Seaglider foils just above the water’s surface at speeds of up to 290 km/h, enabling swift and silent connections between coastal cities.
“This innovative, zero-emission, high-speed vessel represents a major step forward in sustainable maritime transport and has the potential to become a strategic transportation solution for Sweden and the broader Baltic Sea region, says Magnus Granander, director at UME Shipping AB. Given Sweden’s strong environmental commitments and focus on transport innovation, we believe this project is well aligned with national transport and sustainability goals.”
Shaping the future of maritime mobility
”The Seaglider operates using Wing-in-Ground (WIG) effect technology, combining the speed and efficiency of near-surface flight with modern, fully electric propulsion, and we’re excited to bring this innovation to Donsö and open up conversations about its role in the future of green shipping.” says Magnus Granander.”
